Inside the Israel–Iran War: Key Facts & Figures

This edition of the infographic series analyzes the Israel–Iran War, which escalated on February 28, 2026, following coordinated U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iran, including the reported killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. The conflict expanded into a wider regional confrontation, with Iranian strikes reported across Israel, Iraq, Jordan, GCC countries, and a UK base in Cyprus. Over 56,000 U.S. troops were deployed amid continued escalation.

Between February 28 and April 21, 2026, reported casualties included 3,375 killed and over 26,500 injured in Iran, 26 killed and 7,693 injured in Israel, with additional losses across Lebanon, Iraq, and Gulf states. The conflict also caused major economic disruption, including Strait of Hormuz instability, volatile oil prices, and high military expenditures. Humanitarian impacts include displacement, environmental damage, and disruption of WHO medical logistics affecting several countries.
