This edition of the infographic series examines the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), the ruling party of China since 1949. It explores the CCP’s control over state institutions, restrictions on political opposition, media censorship, internet controls, and the use of surveillance technologies to monitor society.
The infographic further highlights allegations of mass detention and cultural repression targeting Uyghurs and other Muslim minorities in Xinjiang, restrictions on religious freedom, crackdowns on journalists, activists, and lawyers, and the suppression of dissent in mainland China and Hong Kong. It also examines transnational repression targeting critics and diaspora communities abroad, the CCP’s United Front influence activities, and China’s growing global influence through the Belt and Road Initiative and Digital Silk Road, including the export of surveillance technologies and practices that strengthen authoritarian rule.
This series will be updated monthly with new infographics, each focusing on a militant group or security-related development.
