Vietnam Under the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV): Political Control, Restrictions on Civil Liberties, and Suppression of Dissent

This edition of the infographic series examines Vietnam under the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV), which has dominated the country’s political system for decades. It explores the CPV’s control over state institutions, restrictions on political opposition, media censorship, internet controls, and the use of surveillance and legal measures to restrict public expression.

The infographic further highlights the imprisonment and prosecution of political critics, journalists, activists, and dissidents, restrictions on religious freedom, and concerns surrounding unrecognized religious groups. It also examines restrictions on civil society, freedom of assembly, academic and labor rights, judicial independence, and the treatment of prisoners. Additional sections explore digital censorship, independent journalism, transnational repression concerns involving Vietnamese critics abroad, and selected restrictions affecting LGBTI+ rights and political participation.

This series will be updated monthly with new infographics, each focusing on a militant group or security-related development.
