Syed Hussain Shaheed Soherwordi is a Professor and Chairman of the Department of International Relations at the University of Peshawar. He is also a former Director of the Institute of Peace and Conflict Studies at the same university. His extensive career spans roles as a researcher and professor specializing in International Relations, Conflict Resolution, Countering Violent Extremism (CVE), Community Resilience, Political Science, and Creative Leadership. Additionally, he is the Director of the Center for FATA Studies at the University of Peshawar.

Dr. Soherwordi served as the convenor of the ‘Working Group for Pakistan’s Foreign Policy towards Afghanistan’ at Pakistan’s National Security Division in Islamabad for four years. He completed his MS and PhD at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland and concluded his National Security & Foreign Policy fellowship at the University of Delaware in the US in 2018. He has been a fellow of several prestigious organizations, including Fulbright, Carnegie, Charles Wallace, the Higher Education Commission (HEC), and the University of Edinburgh.

From 2010 to 2014, he taught at the Fulbright Commission in Bulgaria, focusing on peace and conflict resolution in the 21st century, with a special emphasis on extremism in conflict zones such as FATA (Pakistan), Afghanistan, the US foreign policy, South Asia, and the Middle East. He also taught part-time at the University of Edinburgh from 2005 to 2010.

Dr. Soherwordi has authored more than forty-eight (48) research papers published in national and international journals. His work covers various topics, including the history and relations of India-Pakistan, China, the Tribal Areas of Pakistan, the War on Terror, Afghanistan, Pak-US relations, Conflict Resolution, and strategies for preventing terrorism and extremism.

He has edited two volumes: “Socio-Economic and Political Currents in FATA: A Way Forward” (2015) and “Religion, Economics and Politics of FATA” (2021), both published by Peter Lang Publishers, US. His latest book, “A Divergent Foreign Policy Alliance: The Pak-US Relations,” is scheduled for publication by July 2024.
