Kyle Matthews is the founder and Executive Director of the Montreal Institute for Global Security. He previously worked as Executive Director of the Montreal Institute for Genocide and Human Rights Studies, where he founded the annual AI and Human Rights Forum and the Digital Mass Atrocity Prevention Lab. His work focuses on human rights, international security, emerging technologies and countering authoritarianism. He is a member of the Global Diplomacy Lab and the BMW Foundation’s Global Responsible Leaders network. He is currently a member of the Government of Canada’s Cross-cultural Roundtable on National Security. He began his career as an official with the UN High Commissioner for Refugees and was posted to Tbilisi (Georgia), Kinshasa (Democratic Republic of the Congo) and Geneva (Switzerland). He has also worked as a consultant for UNICEF, the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, and the Swiss Foreign Ministry.
