The Linda Whetstone Award for Freedom and Human Rights is an annual honor recognizing outstanding individual whose work exemplifies the principles of human rights, freedom, and the fight against extremism and authoritarianism. Each year, one recipient is selected for this prestigious award based on their exceptional contributions to advancing these causes. The award will be formally presented during the Gala Dinner (Prosperity Dinner) on the opening night of the Toronto Democracy Forum.
Call for Nominations
Nominations are now open for the 2025 award. We invite you to submit nominations for individuals whose work demonstrates courage, dedication, and meaningful impact in promoting human rights and freedom. You may also nominate yourself if your journey reflects these values. Whether it’s a grassroots activist, a fearless advocate, or a quiet changemaker, we want to hear their story.
By honoring those who champion freedom and human dignity, the Linda Whetstone Award celebrates both the legacy of resilience and the ongoing efforts to build a more just and equitable world.
The recipients of the award will be selected by the Board of Directors and Advisory Council of the World Anti Extremism Network and will be invited to attend the Toronto Democracy Forum on November 16–17, 2025.

This award is named in honor of the late Linda Whetstone (1942–2021), recognizing her remarkable legacy and lifelong commitment to freedom and human rights. Linda worked tirelessly to spread and promote the ideas of freedom, particularly in some of the most challenging places in the world.
She was the founder of the Network for a Free Society (NFS), President of the Mont Pelerin Society (MPS), Chair of the Atlas Network, and served on the Board of the Institute of Economic Affairs in London. Throughout her life, Linda collaborated with thousands of people across the globe, supporting their efforts to advance freedom, human dignity, and the principles of a free society. Her extraordinary work transformed the lives of many and left an enduring impact on the global freedom movement.
