Tariq Lawal is a writer, poet, multifaceted creative, multimedia journalist, artivist, changemaker, and budding social entrepreneur from Lagos, Nigeria. He has a deep passion for storytelling, human rights, art, media, popular culture, sociology, cultural anthropology, and graphic design. Tariq is a constantly evolving and growing individual with an insatiable thirst for knowledge, always seeking new avenues for learning and personal growth. As an angelic troublemaker and a committed changemaker, he is driven by a desire to make a difference in the world. Recognizing the potential of art as a catalyst for change, he uses his voice and creativity to advocate for issues close to his heart.
Tariq passionately advocates for social, economic, environmental, racial, and gender justice. He is a UNICEF Nigeria Young Influencer and a UNODC Nigeria Young Wildlife Influencer. He is also a Global Citizen 2024 Emerging Creative, 4Ocean Wavemaker and a Heal The Planet Young Planet Leader. His achievements include winning several local, national, and global creativity-related contests, such as the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime #BeWildForNature Competition and the American Sociological Association Student Video Contest.
As the creative mastermind behind the Log Off Movement’s cohesive visual identity, Tariq manages his social media presence and digital communication channels. He serves as the Culture Lead Writer at Young Journalists of America and is the only African correspondent for FEMINIST, the global hub for intersectional feminism with an audience of more than six million people. Tariq has also collaborated with several nonprofits as a creative media creator. His professional experience includes internships at the Corporate Sustainability and Responsibility Department at Wema Bank and Oystr Finance, a fintech startup, in 2022. Additionally, he is a Civics Unplugged Fellow, Orius Fellow, Young African Internet Safety Fellow, and a OneUpAction Creative Fellow.
