Development Assistant

Marwa Tahir works as a Development Assistant at the World Anti Extremism Network (WAEN). She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, with a major in Development Studies, from the Institute of Management Sciences (IMSciences), Peshawar. Originally from Afghanistan and currently based in Pakistan, she is deeply committed to women’s rights, economic inclusion, education, and community development.

At WAEN, she is engaged in proposal development, fundraising support, and the preparation of concept notes, donor reports, and program communications. She contributes as an editor and writer for the Uncensored Watch newsletter and develops content for the website and social media platforms. In addition, she edits and formats a range of publications, including articles, research papers, and contributes to mentoring and facilitating human rights training sessions alongside other program-related tasks.

Her academic and professional interests center on Afghan women’s rights and economic inclusion, which also shaped her final-year thesis titled, “Entrepreneurial Inclusion: Obstacles Faced by Female Afghan Entrepreneurs and Their Coping Strategies under the De Facto Regime in Afghanistan,” a qualitative study based on interviews with female entrepreneurs in Kabul. She has also worked on women’s economic empowerment and community development through a UNESCO-funded project implemented by AELSO, where she trained 45 Afghan women in entrepreneurship and business development, and as co-founder of Hope Peshawar, a community initiative that has supported over 500 families through humanitarian assistance, education support, microfinance initiatives, and emergency relief efforts.
