Mapping the Future: Perspectives on International Engagement, Human Rights, and the Humanitarian Situation in Afghanistan.

The Macdonald-Laurier Institute, Canada’s national public policy think tank, in partnership with the World Anti-Extremism Network, an international non-profit organization based in Toronto that strives to create a world without violent extremism and authoritarianism by promoting peace, pluralism, and freedom, are pleased to organize the first “Toronto Dialogue on Afghanistan.” This dialogue will include Canadian thought leaders and practitioners, representatives from international organizations and missions in Canada, as well as Afghanistan scholars and activists. The aim is to discuss the future of Afghanistan, international engagement, human rights, and the humanitarian situation in the country.

Following the recent UN meeting in Doha, Qatar (18-19 February 2024), focused on Afghanistan, our dialogue offers a unique platform to discuss the outcomes of this crucial meeting and the way forward. We will explore the role of Canada and the international community in supporting human rights, promoting and protecting the freedom of the people, preventing authoritarianism, and creating equal opportunities for both Afghanistan males and females.

Join us for this enlightening evening featuring well-known keynote speakers from Canada and Afghanistan who will share their insights and expertise on these critical issues and share your ideas to contribute to shaping informed perspectives and fostering collaboration for the future of Afghanistan.

This event will take place on the first day of Ramadan. Prior to the program, dinner and Iftari will be served for all guests and participants.
