August 2026 Newsletter: Stories of Repression, Resistance, and the Fight for Human Rights

The August edition of the World Anti-Extremism Network’s Newsletter highlights stories of repression, discrimination, conflict, and the ongoing struggle for human rights around the world. This month’s issue explores restrictions on communication with international media and executions in Iran, the detention of NGO workers in Afghanistan, and the prosecution of democracy activists in Hong Kong. The newsletter also highlights concerns over artistic freedom in China, discrimination against vulnerable communities in India, civilian deaths in Sudan, and reports of torture and deaths in detention in Syria. In addition, we examine Ecuador’s adoption reform and concerns affecting LGBT families and transgender children.
