Human Rights Advocate | Conflict Studies and Human Rights Student, University of Ottawa

Veda Chandra is a human rights advocate and community organizer based in Toronto, Canada. Currently studying Conflict Studies and Human Rights at the University of Ottawa, Veda focuses her academic work on structural and social violence. She is particularly interested in researching international human rights law, gender-based violence, and the dynamics of political dissent and democracy, examining how these issues manifest in India, Canada, and beyond.

Within Amnesty International, she holds several leadership roles focused on institutional change and digital mobilization. She serves as a National Youth Engagement Officer for the National Youth Action and Advisory Committee, the organization’s highest youth body, where she works to dismantle barriers to youth participation. On campus, she is the Co-President of Amnesty International uOttawa. Nationally, she acts as a volunteer and media lead for the Specialized Team on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, curating educational campaigns and advocating for legislative progress on clean water initiatives in Canada.

Her civic advocacy extends into municipal governance and intersectional feminism. As the sole Youth Advisor to the Ottawa Youth Council and a frequent speaker at Ottawa City Hall, Veda advocates for youth representation on city councillor committees to hold leadership accountable. She also serves as a Youth Advisory Council Member for the Canadian Council of Young Feminists and collaborates with the Ottawa chapter of the Women’s Legal Education and Action Fund.

As a Global Ambassador for the World Anti-Extremism Network, Veda is committed to building accessible pathways for young people to influence policy, challenge extremism, and push forward meaningful change on a global scale.
